Internet Safety
At Springwood Primary Academy, we want all pupils to use technology safely, responsibly, and confidently. As children spend more time online, it’s important they understand the risks, know how to protect themselves, and use digital tools positively.
Our Approach
-
Education & Awareness: Pupils are taught about online safety through lessons, assemblies, and age-appropriate resources. Topics include personal information, privacy, cyberbullying, and responsible online behaviour.
-
Internet Safety Day: Every year, we take part in Internet Safety Day to raise awareness and explore online safety in fun and engaging ways.
-
Safe Use of Devices: Pupils learn how to use computers, tablets, and other digital tools safely, including secure passwords, recognising unsafe websites, and avoiding inappropriate content.
-
Reporting & Support: Children are encouraged to speak to a trusted adult if they see something online that worries them. Staff provide guidance and support to resolve issues quickly.
-
Parental Involvement: We provide guidance and resources for families to support safe online habits at home, including recommended websites, apps, and strategies for monitoring online activity.
Key Online Safety Rules for Pupils
-
Keep personal information private (full name, address, phone number, passwords).
-
Be kind and respectful to others online.
-
Ask permission before using apps, websites, or sharing images.
-
Tell a trusted adult if something online makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
-
Only visit websites or games that are suitable for your age.
By teaching online safety from the earliest years and celebrating Internet Safety Day each year, we aim to help our pupils become responsible digital citizens who can enjoy the benefits of technology while staying safe.
