Welcome to Springwood Junior Academy’s FS2 website page! FS2 is a very important stage as it prepares children for their future learning and successes. We aim to deliver an early years’ experience which is hands-on, exciting, fun and secure! The children have access to both the engaging classroom and the stimulating outdoor learning area. Children in FS2 learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking. The children are encouraged and supported to complete continuous provision activities. These are inspired by weekly topics, as well as the children’s unique interests and needs. The children also complete weekly focused tasks which contribute to their big books.

The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development (Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design).

At the end of the EYFS – in the summer term of FS2 – an assessment is completed for your child which is known as the EYFS Profile. Each child’s level of development is assessed against 17 early learning goals (ELGs) across all 7 areas of learning in the EYFS. For each ELG, teachers must assess whether a child is meeting the level of development expected at the end of the EYFS, or if they are not yet reaching this level and should be assessed as ‘emerging’. The Profile is intended to provide a reliable and accurate summative assessment of each child’s development at the end of the EYFS in order to support children’s successful transitions to year 1. Your child's teacher will use their professional judgement to make EYFS Profile assessments, using their knowledge and understanding of what a child knows, understands, and can do.
