Computing

Intent
At Springwood Primary Academy, we recognise the importance of computing in children’s future lives. Our aim is to equip pupils with the skills, knowledge and confidence to use technology safely, responsibly and effectively in an increasingly digital world.
Implementation
Computing is taught through a combination of discrete lessons and meaningful use of technology across the curriculum. In the early years, pupils explore technology through continuous provision, role play and small-group activities, developing an understanding of everyday digital devices.
As pupils move through the school, learning follows the Teach Computing Curriculum, which provides a clear progression of skills and knowledge across four strands:
-
Programming
-
Data handling
-
Computer systems and networks
-
Creating media
Pupils regularly use laptops, interactive whiteboards and age-appropriate software to support learning. Programming is introduced using Scratch, a child-friendly platform that helps pupils develop key concepts such as sequencing, logic, algorithms and debugging.
Impact
Pupils make good progress from their starting points and develop a secure understanding of computing. They become confident, capable users of technology who are prepared for the next stage of their education and for life in a digital world. Progress is assessed through a range of digital and non-digital outcomes, alongside pupil voice.
